I believe it was Elian's dad, his stepmother and their baby (the one
that the dad has been seen carrying on the news). I wasn't quite
sure what to make of the picture. It was a beautiful nursing
picture with mom completely uncovered on that side. I first thought
it was great that in showing a family picture, nursing could be
happening without being the subject of the picture. That would
certainly be an example of breastfeeding as the norm! Then I began
to get paranoid and wonder if there was any ulterior motive behind
showing it. "Do we really want to send this poor boy to a place
where this kind of exposure is so casual?" "Look how primative they
are in Cuba." or other possible messages came to mind. Maybe I'm
getting too cynical and should just enjoy the fact that such a
lovely picture was in a national mag. It will be interesting to see
if there's any comment in the letters to the editor in the next few
week.
