My 7dd did this all of the time, and I do mean all of the time. While there
is nothing at all wrong w/ her, she did have a difficult time nursing for
months. She was fussy at breast, I had an OALD, she was "colicky" and had to
be bounced constantly. I do not know if the eye rolling was related, but I
learned 2 very important things from nursing her. 1. Calcium/magnesium
supplements can completely resolve OALD. 2. Body work can be like magic in
treating this kind of "high-need" baby. It all resolved w/ cranial-sacral
work. Unfortunately, she suffered needlessly for many months before I figured
this out. (BTW, she was a home birth underwater and went to breast immediately
--never had a latch problem, has never had food allergies and I did not have
yeast, *but* the labor was way too long and the birth precipitous, thus the
need for bodywork).

some interesting research by Truss (his book MISSING DIAGNOSIS is a
compilation of peer reviewed articles from journals such as Lancet, JAMA,
NEJM, etc) linking "syndrome" diseases such as neuralgia, fibromyalgia, CFS,
and others to systemic yeast infection. I strongly suggest that you
investigate this possibility and treat for systemic yeast (usually requires
a multifaceted approach over a period of months).>>

Chris,
I see this quite often. Systemic yeast is often an overlooked but serious
problem before a pregnancy and then emerges as a *very* serious problem
during breastfeeding. I try to educate mothers about the importance of
treating at a deeper level than just the mother's breasts/baby's mouth and
bottom. Lisa mentioned burning as a symptom--this is classic w/ yeast. So the
mother has several major symptoms: pink nipples, burning, shooting pains,
also yeast infection during pregnancy, history of allergies and cesarean
birth are likely predisposing factors. I wonder if she has food cravings and
eats a diet high in dairy/ simple carbs and sugar (inc fruit juice). I agree
that a more aggressive treatment of yeast is likely warranted.
