One thing that has always interested me is the often-heard description in the
child development literature of "night terrors" or nightmares as a normal
developmental stage in early childhood.  We always responded to our kids
during the night as babies and toddlers - in the case of our first, by
bringing her into bed and nursing her, in the case of the second, by having
him in bed with us.  Neither of them either had anything resembling night
terrors or nightmares.  It seems to me this might be a cultural phenomenon.
Of course, based on a sample size of two.  Anyone else have any data on this?
