I too feel that most LLL leaders are caring and knowledgable. I think
that there are two other factors at work here:
1- LLL leaders are peer counselors and focus on mother-to-mother help and
support. There are some leaders who emphasize the interpersonal aspects
instead of the technical ones.
2- LLL has long believed that a baby needs its mother, even if the mother
is not around (for whatever reason). This has led to somewhat less
attention to the needs of mothers that work outside the house. However
there has been a special session at every LLL conference that I have been
at in at least the last 5 years dealing with the needs of working women.
Some leaders and group members might have strong feelings about
separation and so are less likely to focus on the needs of a
working/pumping mom.

La Leche League leaders have always been trained in answering the
question that is asked and accepting each mother where she is. I am
sorry that this does not always succeed 100%.

(I have been a leader for 26 years - and that was the basis of my
education to be an LC)
