I'm in south Louisiana USA and specifically a hospt in a suburb of New
Orleans. You said <<I'm afraid that overzealous hospital staff could react
and call child protective services about a mom who refused separation, blood
sugar tests, suck testing (with sterile water), antibiotic ointment and
baths for her newborn, HepB vaccination, and all the other stuff I
personally would refuse if I birthed in a hospital (but 99% of women accept
without question).>>
My feeling is that a family could refuse all of the above without
repercussion if the baby is a healthy full term baby. Certainly the doctor
or nurse may think the family is "whacko" and would likely try to persuade
the family that the procedures were necessary. But if the family would
calmly give the rationale why they refuse, I think it would go over okay.
