Owning copyrighted material is NOT like owning real property, because
copyright laws clearly allow for making one copy for personal use, or in
educational settings, making copies for each student for their personal use.
Whereas you can't come into my house and borrow my clothes or jewelry
without my permission, even if it is just for a one time, personal use. We
have beat this horse before on Lactnet, just recently, in fact!

Ha! I wish. The standards for what constitutes copyright infringement, and
even plagiarism, vary greatly from country to country. Those of you who get
JHL can read my review of Priya Vincent's book in the last issue -- blatant,
egregious, copious, plagiarism of my own and several other people's work.
Cobbled together into a book called "Feeding Our Children" and published by
a British publisher, for commercial purposes. I was told by university
lawyers that there was no point pursuing this because the author was from
India, and that pretty much "anything goes" in India -- that there have been
cases of people taking a book written by an author from another country and
reprinting it word for word with their name on the cover as the original
author. Also, that since the journal "Social Science and Medicine" owns the
copyright for much of the work that Vincent took, their lawyers would have
to foot the bill for legal proceedings. I certainly informed SS&M about
this, but they didn't think it was worth pursuing either.

Since this thread is not lactation related, and since we've all been
properly chastised, and since none of us is a legal expert on copyright law,
perhaps we could drop this??
